Overview
|
Scuba Navigator attempts to emulate your diving lifestyle. To that end,
we realize that many divers do not have a shop, and also that most/all
shop owners are divers. So, Scuba Navigator allows you to take on different
roles as you move through the site.
At the entry point you have an account; you set this up when you registered.
Your account contains information that you may optionally expose to your
other roles, as either a Diver or a Shop.
All Account holders "should" become Scuba Navigator (SN) Divers. There are
certain activities that only SN Divers can do, and it is expected that all
members would desire to have a diver role and participate in these activities.
A Shop Owner (or Shop) is a role that a Business, Organization or other
such entity would have. This role is allowed to manage up to three (3)
different Shops within the Scuba Navigator realm. (If you really need
more, let us know.)
Assuming you have both a Diver and a Shop role, the site tries to know
which role you should use when either of your roles could be used. For
example, when you post a message to "Your Shop", you post as "Shop", but
when you post to another Shop you post as a Diver (your Diver Handle).
If this is confusing, unclear, or just makes no sense at all, please do
not hesitate to use the "Contact Us" link below - we are here to help.
|
Adding a Diver
|
Adding a Diver begins at the Account Portal. You will need to chose
an alias or "Handle" to assume the role of a Scuba Navigator Diver.
Once you become a Scuba Navigator Diver you will have your own
Diver Profile page. To customize this page, see the Account Portal.
|
|
Editing Diver Information
|
You may customize your Diver Profile from the Account Portal. Use either
the "Edit Diver Profile" or "Add Certifications" links.
You will be prompted for information that you wish to make available when you
are found on this website. Therefore, don't enter anything here that you
do not wish to make publically available. The required fields are Name, City,
State, Country and E-mail. If you have a URL, please start this field with
"http://" or else leave it blank. Don't worry, if errors are found, a
bright red message will be displayed on the top of the page.
Having entered your contact information, move onto the next page and indicate
your interests, whether you were or are an instructor, and tell us a little
bit about yourself. Lastly, indicate whether you would like to be found via
the Buddy Search.
Review your information, and if all looks good commit it.

Adding a Shop
|
Adding a Shop is easy. Like all changes to your account, adding a Shop
is initiated via the Account Portal.
The first form has areas to fill in Shop contact information. Most,
but not all of these are required fields. If you have a URL, please start this
field with "http://" or else leave it blank.
Having entered your contact information, click "Shop Info" to move onto the
next page. Don't worry, if errors are found, you will be returned and a
bright red message will be displayed on the top of the page.
The next few pages will categorize the shop by the type of services
offerred. This is accomplished by selecting appropriate categories from the
list(s) presented and providing a brief description. Many of the categories
have sub-categories which attempt to further clarify matters.
Please select ALL the options that apply; but just as important, please
select ONLY the options that apply as well.
A review page will provide an opportunity to make changes before you commit
the information. Review the information, and if it is correct, proceed.
Once your request has been received, it will be reviewed, most likely
approved, and immediately found by the Search Engines; this should be a
matter of a few hours. In the meantime, you may contine to view / edit
/ review your listing.
|
|
Editing A Shop
|
If you added a Shop you can Edit a Shop. It is pretty much the same thing.
The only difference is that there is a "Partial Edit" (you don't do the
categories again) and a "Full Edit" (where you do).

Searching This Site
|
There are several methods to search this site. They are listed here:
Navigator Search
The "click-search" Navigator may be the easiest if you are unsure how to search
for a particular shop. First, select "Navigator" from the top of any
page. Then, select the appropriate category from the list
provided. Many of these will lead to lists of sub-categories (check the status
bar with your mouse over the link to see which ones have sub-categories and
which search the database). If you need to return to one of the pages past,
use the Navigation Links to the top and left of the image map.
Directory Search
If you want to go right to the heart of the data, click on the "Directory"
link at the top of any page. Enter the information, select the state or
country, and click the button on the upper left of the grouping.
General Search
If you know the Name of the Shop (or part of it), the City it is located
in, or a few keywords of the busioness, just type them in to the Search
bar at the top of any window and away you go.
Buddy Search
If you want to search for a diver who is open to diving with a new Buddy,
click on "Dive Buddy" link on the top of any page. There are different
searches to all you to better find who you are looking for. Good Luck!!!"
